William Sheldon Brown, 69, of Kirby, VT, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018, at his home with his wife, daughter, and two sisters.
Bill was born in St. Johnsbury, VT on January 22, 1949 to Herbert Irving Brown and Wanda Anita (Sheldon) Ellsworth. He was raised and educated in Belmont, NH and Sterling, MA. Between 1969 and 1980, Bill served in the Marine Corps with Company H 2nd Battalion 4th Marines 3rd Marine Division earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He did two tours in Vietnam and was one of the last to leave in the evacuation. In civilian life, he worked as a Crane Operator for J.A. McDonald, CCS, and Winterset. He also worked at Lyndonville Office Equipment, Fairbanks Scales, VT Tap and Die, and Dwyer Logging. On September 17, 2011, Bill married the love of his life, Lisa Ellen MacKay.
Bill enjoyed spending time at camp, hunting, trapping and fishing, playing horseshoes, dancing, karaoke and seeing family and friends. He loved spending time with Lisa and was fortunate to go on his Great National Park trip of a lifetime to fish in Montana with her and his good friend, Steve Bean, acting as chauffeur. Bill also loved his dogs, Tucker and Smitty. He was a member of VFW Post 10038, American Legion Post 58, as well as Post 30 where he served as commander for three years, Vietnam Veterans Association, Tom Breslin Center, Elks Lodge 1343, and NRA. He served as a board member for OEC King American Legion Baseball and really enjoyed going to watch them play.
Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 7 years: Lisa M. Brown of Kirby, VT; two daughters: Julia Brown of Lyndonville, VT and Michelle Cooper of Fitchburg, MA; a brother: Jeff Brown, Sr. of Concord, VT; three sisters: Anita LeBlanc of Lunenburg, MA, Nancy Pellegrino of Waterford, VT, and Carol Leslie of Rochester, NH; 6 grandchildren: Cameron Cooper, Michael Cooper, Solomon Brown, Sierra Rolf, Kaydin John, and Bradyn John; two great-grandchildren: Emma and Scarlett Cooper; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother: Wanda Ellsworth; his father: Herbert Brown; his in-laws: Dale and Betty MacKay; and his beloved dog: Wesson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018, 1-5PM, at VFW Post 10038, 156 Hill Street, Lyndonville, VT, 05851. At 2PM there will be a brief remembrance of Bill.
