Sylvia Dunbar

October 14, 1940 — July 10, 2016

Sylvia Ann Dunbar, 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on July 10, 2016. Her love and kindness will always be remembered by all those lucky enough to have known her. She was a devoted companion, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and much more.

Sylvia was born to the late Ned E. and Myrtle C. (Chaffee) Dunbar in Danville, Vermont on Oct. 14, 1940. She graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1958. She was dedicated to raising her five children. She was a wonderful housekeeper and exceptional baker.

Sylvia enjoyed a large family who loved and respected her with all their hearts. She raised five intelligent, strong children. She had a hand in raising her grandchildren to the same results. She was kind, resilient, loving, and sturdy. She was the glue that held her family together.

Some of the things she loved included bird watching, her annual trip to the county fair, holiday baking traditions, and her beloved frog collection.

Sylvia is survived by her companion Raymond Miles of 53 years, special cousins Dean Gonyaw and companion Rose Foster, special friend Chuck Martin, brothers Arland Dunbar and wife Mary, Victor Dunbar and wife Nancy, and Vernon Dunbar and life long friend Larry Berard, sister Judy Daigle and husband Roy.

Sons Kenneth Miles and companion Bonnie Cassady, Timothy Dunbar and fiancee Sarah Morgan, and Johnathan Dunbar and fiancee Tammy Tattersall, daughters Jossie DeGreenia and husband Jason, and Wendy Rowell and husband Richard, Grandchildren Stacy DeGreenia, Sabrina Boutin and husband Patrick, Nicholas Goodwin, Korinna Porter and husband Jon, Elizabeth Dunbar, Paul Dunbar, David Lennon, Megan Tattersall, and Krista Wright, Great grandchildren Jason J. DeGreenia, Adora and Finlyn Boutin, Riley and Abigail Porter, Austin Wheeler and Nathan Ladouceur, and Lyla Caron, and a special little boy, Raymond Laplume Jr., whom she sent shortly after her passing.

Sylvia is predeceased by her beloved parents, Ned E. Dunbar and Myrtle C. (Chaffee) Dunbar, and her great granddaughter Coraline Astyn Boutin.

There will be a graveside service held at the William Dexter cemetery in Sheffield, Vt., on Sunday, July 17 at 1 p.m. followed immediately by a pot luck celebration of life at Millers Run School, also in Sheffield.

In leiu of flowers contributions can be made in her name to Caledonia Home Health, St Johnsbury, Vt. Without their help she wouldn’t have been able to remain at home.
