Sylvanus (Sal) Denio 81, passed away suddenly of heart failure at Dartmouth Hospital on August 30, 2024, with his wife Betty and niece Lisa Carlson by his side.
Sal was born on June 18, 1943 to Henry and Mildred Denio of Passumpsic. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy and loved being a member of the school band. He later graduated from Wentworth Institute in Boston and went on to Trine University in Angola, Indiana to receive a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Sal joined the U.S. Navy after college and was sent to Viet Nam. He was very proud of his position as a Seabee. He served 5 years as an officer and left service as a 1st Lt.
Sal married Elizabeth Remick while in the service. They were married for 23 years and had 2 children.
After leaving the Navy, Sal went to work at St Johnsbury Trucking as director of properties and terminals where he was responsible for 72 facilities at one time. After working at the company for 24 years, it closed in 1993. He then started his own company, TTS Services, which he operated for 25 years before retiring.
Sal married Betty Lambert in 1990. Sal and Betty traveled to many places during their 34 years of marriage including twice to Hawaii and several trips to both Florida and Maine.
Sal loved spending time at his parent’s farm and working on tractors. No one really knew how may tractors he actually had. His great joy was going to antique tractor shows and loved the one in Sebring, Florida which he attended for many years.
Sal was a wonderful friend and would do anything to help someone in need. He was a calm and loving man and had great patience for all. If you ever met Sal, you would be sure to get a story (tall tale) and chuckle. He had a great love of music of all kinds.
Sal is survived by his wife Betty of 34 years, daughter Karen Hourigan (husband Eric), and granddaughter Jordan Hourigan, all of Ferandina, Florida, step daughters Kimberly Kimball (husband Bruce) of Florida and Kathy Owens of Massachusetts, nephew Adam Denio of New Hampshire, Josh Denio of Maine and many cousins, especially Bruce Denio of Barnet. He loved his close friends, Richard Reed, Steve Stevens, Paul Lemay, and Tracy Carlson.
He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Mildred Denio, his brother Stanley Denio, his son Stephen Denio, nephew Mark Denio, stepson Nelson Lambert and very special friend Christine Burrough.
