Susan Lowrey

Susan Rose Lowrey, 75, of Pisgah Road in St. Johnsbury, VT passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Country Village Center in Lancaster, NH, where she had been staying since November 2023.

A lifelong resident of St. Johnsbury, Sue was born there on October 21, 1949, daughter to Gerald and Marie-Claire (Dauphin) Wood. She attended local schools, graduating from Mt. St. Joseph with the Class of 1969. Sue worked at St. Johnsbury Trucking as a keypunch until 1976 and then worked in childcare for 25 years. She also was a soda jerk at Desrocher’s Pharmacy.

Sue liked Bingo, most often playing at the Elks Club. She loved talking on the phone. A communicant at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Sue served her parish by singing in the choir. Every year family, friends, and the Annual Christmas Bazaar were rewarded with her raspberry filled cookies.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years: Carroll ‘Shorty’ Lowrey of St. Johnsbury; children: Nathan and wife Amanda of Lyndonville, VT, and Allison Horne and husband Lance of Danville, VT; siblings: Linda Tenney of Manchester, NH, Maggie Austin and husband Jay of Danville, Kathy Farnsworth and husband Gordy of St. Johnsbury, Patty Wheeler and husband Brian of St. Johnsbury, Sylvia Cote and husband Rick of St. Johnsbury, and Michael Wood of St. Johnsbury; sisters-in-law: Jackie Wood and Julietta Wood; five grandchildren: Caleb Lowrey, Cameron Horne and fiancé Alison St. Peter, Colby Horne, Hunter Horne, and Hope Horne; one great-grandchild: Levi Horne; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by siblings: Anita (Dick) Bedor, Ray (Helen) Wood, Gerry, Dennis, and John Paul Wood; and brother-in-law: Mitch Tenney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Church on Winter Street in St. Johnsbury. Friends may call on the family on Friday, March 14, 2025, 5-7PM at Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street, St. Johnsbury. A graveside service will be held in the spring on June 23, 2025, 10AM, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. John Street, St. Johnsbury.
