Steven C. Cross

Steven Corey Cross, 37, of McIndoe Falls, Vermont, passed away in Lyndonville, Vermont on November 22, 2024. He was born July 5, in St Johnsbury, Vermont, to Michael and Lisa Cross.

Steven spent his childhood growing up in Passumpsic, Vermont, with his brothers, Kevin and David, escaping from every car seat ever made, taking things apart so he could see how they work and then putting them back together, building souped-up go carts, and climbing the tallest trees to the very top. As an adult, Steven continued to develop his talented mechanical skills from working on cars and trucks to big rigs and farm machinery at various businesses in the area. If it was broken, Steven could fix it. Recently, he realized one of his lifelong dreams and opened his own successful business, CC Mobile Mechanic, offering 24 hour roadside assistance focusing on big rigs needing help from as far away as Burlington. His hard work, sheer determination, and believing in himself made this a reality. 

He loved anything outdoors- hunting, fishing, snowboarding, cookouts, motorcycling and road trips with friends, music, his dogs, and spending fun times with friends and family.

Steven always lived his life fully, embracing every challenge as a new adventure. He may have been fearless at times, but those that knew him saw a sensitive, deeply loving, and caring person. Someone with a heart of gold, someone who was always there with his warm and infectious smile and laugh to offer a helping hand. As a friend, his bonds were lifelong. Stories about what they shared would probably fill a book. He cherished and loved his brother, Kevin, and the experiences and life they shared together.

Steven had a very close relationship with his mom, Lisa, who Steven affectionately called “Mama Dukes”, a relationship that most parents would dream of. They were always there for each other, sometimes just hanging out and talking, many other times having a great time with family and friends having a cookout around their legendary bonfires.

But Steven's greatest joy was his one-year-old son, Decan. He had always dreamed of having a son and he had a beautiful one. Steven was an amazing Dad in every way. Decan's face would light up every time he saw Steven. Steven had already planned out the times and adventures they would share together as Decan grew older.

Steven is survived by his son Decan Jeffrey Cross and loving mom, Casey Squires, his mom, Lisa (Hooker) Cross and stepdad Joseph Stewart , brothers Kevin and David Cross, grandmother Tela Hooker, aunts and uncles Tina Riendeau and Paul, Rita Hooker, Randy Hooker and Jenn, and many nieces and nephews and other family members. He was predeceased by his father, Michael G Cross and his grandfather, Leslie Hooker. Steven also leaves behind the truest of true friends, Tyler Wilson, Travis Cole, cousin Billy Joe Allen, and his dog Marley.

Steven's passing leaves behind a huge hole in the lives of those he touched, but the memories and love for him will live on forever. Rest in peace, Steven, You will never be forgotten.

Mama's “little bird” has flown home......

A celebration and remembrance of Steven's life will be held at the American Legion Post 30 on Rt 5 in Lyndonville on Thursday, Dec 5th from 4-8pm. Potluck, so feel free to bring something to share.
