St. Johnsbury, VT: Stephen James McNulty, age 66, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 24, 2023, at the St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Center. He maintained a sense of humor and positive attitude with a true appreciation for those who cared for him during his declining health.
Stephen was born in Boston, MA, on March 13, 1957, son to the late James E. and Claire (McVay) McNulty. He grew up in Wakefield, MA, and harbored a love for the Red Sox since the age of two. He didn’t understand the game at the time but loved watching and cheering which went on for the next 64 years. He played little league as a child for the local Indians team. Steve worked in the shipyards in South Boston as a pipefitter, then made his way to Florida, spending time with friends in Ortega and Palm Beach and working at a nursing home in Rivera. About 1990 Stephen moved to Vermont and found the place that felt most like home and met friends that became family. His faith was in the Lord and during his health trials, Stephen put his trust in Jesus. He was a longtime member of Corpus Christi Parish and loved making spaghetti and meatball dinners for many of the priest over the years. He had a special place in his heart for them all including , Fr. Luke Austin, Fr. Jospeh Lively, Fr. Bernie Gaudreau, Fr. Curtis Miller and Fr. Lance Harlow.
There were several people Stephen loved and trusted: Deb Travis and her daughter, Amanda Larrabee, Jimmy O., Phillip M. Samson, Andy Martin, Vicki Mednick, Joe Matyjewicz, and Tracie Robillard. He was thankful for all of the friends in his life.
His close friends who have passed were Ed Santaw, Eric Robillard and Matt Mednick.
Stephen was a beautiful example of love to all of us.
