Shirley Simpson

Shirley Ann Simpson, 89, of River Road in Gilman, VT passed away with her son and daughter-in-law by her side on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Country Village Center in Lancaster, NH.

Shirley was born in Barre, VT on August 19, 1935, to the late John and Jeanette (Smith) Gavin. She worked as a Private Duty Caregiver out of her home. As in her working life, Shirley helped those around her in her private and family life. She loved cooking and time with her family and grandchildren. Shirley was an “adopted” grandmother to many who crossed her path. She loved attending pick-up truck pulls that were a big part of life for two of her sons, a grandson, and a granddaughter.

Survivors include her sons: Mike LaPoint and wife Cheryl of Gilman, VT, Scott LaPoint of St. Johnsbury, VT, and Doug Simpson and wife Tracy of St. Johnsbury, VT; daughter: Catherine Maloni and husband Louis of Tampa, FL; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews including special nieces from Waterbury and Connecticut.

Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband: Carroll Simpson; a son: Wendall “Skeeters” Gerrish; sisters: Mildred McIntyre, Lucille Anderson, and Betty West; and a brother: Richard Gavin.

There will be a celebration of life at a later time.
