Scott Stuart

October 19, 1956 — July 17, 2024

Scott John Stuart, 67, of Monroe, NH, passed away at Littleton Regional Healthcare on July 17, 2024.

Scott was born in Hardwick, VT on October 19, 1956, to John M. and Lorraine (Gammell) Stuart of Cabot. A year later they moved to Monroe, NH. Scott attended Monroe Elementary School and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1975. He married Sue Ann Butler on October 9, 1989.

Over the years Scott helped his folks on the farm while working for the Monroe Highway Department. He was employed by CPM Paper, Ryegate, Nihan’s Rental Equipment, Commercial Tire, N.E. Tire Service Center, and the Town of Lyman Highway Department where he retired at age 62 due to health concerns. His favorite work was fixing and installing tires for many local farmers, loggers, town operations, businesses, and individuals. He made many friends and kept up with any “news.”

Scott enjoyed skiing, fishing, canoeing, and hunting until he decided he’d rather shoot them with a camera than a gun. He raised chickens for a while and had a pet rooster, Buddy, who thought he was a dog and worshipped Scott. In his later years, he got a kick out of feeding the neighbor’s sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens and was sad when some of the “gang” ended up in the freezer! He enjoyed joining the “regulars” for breakfast at the Littleton Diner before work.

Scott loved his role as Grandpa Scott. He will be lovingly remembered by all for his kindness towards the elderly, his willingness to help others, his integrity and strong work ethic, and, most of all, the love he gave his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Lorraine Stuart; half-brother Stanley Fenoff; mother and father-in-law Dot and Jack Butler; aunts Cora (Warren) Partridge, Ethel Jones, Evelyn (Rubin) Hastings, and Florence (Ken) Ward; uncles Desmond (Arlene) Stuart, Claude Stuart, Henry (Millie) Stuart, Reg Stuart, John Gammell, Robert Gammell, Richard Gammell, and James Gammell.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Ann Stuart; Son William Huntoon, Sr. and Daughter Tara (Daren) Smith; grandchildren Cameron Smith, Leah Smith, Alorah Richardson, Joseph Marshall, and William Huntoon, Jr.; sisters Sandra (Gordon) Ward, Emily (Chrisopher Ward) Ward Emerson, and Shirley (Patrick) Gillander; half brother Steven (Joanne) Fenoff; brother-in-law Kenneth C. Butler; aunts and uncles Elaine (Ray) Merchand, Eunice Stuart, Virginia Gammell, Helen Laberge, Sharon Gilmour, Victor Gammell, Ken Gammell, Roger Gammell, Connie Gammell, Lynn Gammell; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins too numerous to mention.

A brief memorial service will be held at the North Monroe Cemetery on July 26, 2024 at 1:00pm. A celebration of life and sharing of memories will follow at the North Monroe Methodist Church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Scott’s name may be made to the Monroe F.A.S.T. Squad, c/o Maynard Farr, Monroe Town Hall, 152 Woodsville Rd, Monroe, NH 03771.
