Scott Cheney, of Newark, passed away suddenly at his home on March 22, 2016 at the age of 59.
He was born in Hartford CT on May 4, 1956, the son of Nancy Ellen (Scranton) and Roger Nelson Cheney. He spent his youth in Connecticut and Vermont, later settling in Newark with his wife Janet in 1994.
Scott attended Oliver Wolcott Technical School in Torrington, Conn. where he excelled in all hands-on skills, especially auto mechanics. As a boy, instead of bringing home stray puppies, Scott brought home an amazing collection of rusty, broken motors, engines and car parts to be taken apart, put back together, and fixed.
Scott enjoyed carpentry and built the house in Newark. Scott could repair anything from a tiny wrist watch to a town grader. Many of the furnishings in their home were Scott's creations as were many of the innovative machines in his shop and garage. He was also a self taught musician, singer, and song writer who played with groups throughout New England. For the past two years, he co-hosted the monthly jamboree at the West Burke Senior Meal Site with his friend, Jim.
Scott leaves behind his wife, Janet; his daughter, Jamie Buhaisi and her husband, Ehab; his mother Nancy Rovero; his brothers, Steve and his wife Judy and Todd; his sister, Ellen Friedler and husband Don; Janet's family; her sister Joan Allard and husband Raymond, sister Joyce Austin, her brother, Bruce Austin and wife Diana; nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at the West Burke Meal Site located in the town hall building on April 3rd from 1-3pm.
Memorial contributions, marked in Scott's name, could be directed to the West Burke Senior Meal Site, P.O. Box 100, West Burke, VT 05871.
