Sally Ruth Jewell

West Barnet, VT: Sally Ruth (Stewart) Jewell, age 79, of Somerhill Road, passed quietly to her Lord Tuesday morning, September 17, 2024. She was at her home, in the presence of her loving family. Sally was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, on June 8, 1945, to the late Robert Leon and Dorothy (Strobridge) Stewart, and was raised on the family farm in West Barnet. After elementary school, she went to St. Johnsbury Academy, graduating with the Class of 1963. She then earned a BS degree in education from Plymouth State Teacher’s College and taught at area elementary schools. She was also involved in operating the family farm. Sally married David Paul Jewell on July 5, 1969, and have shared 55 years.

Sally was a longtime member of Union Baptist Church, enjoyed reading, particularly books for Bible studies, and visiting with people. She had a smile for everyone. She was a member of the Grange, Farm Bureau and Women Involved in Farm Economics. Working with children was one of her greatest joys, and she spent summers directing Vacation Bible School at the East Peacham Baptist Church for many years. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and looked forward to holiday gatherings.

 In addition to her beloved husband, David, she is survived by: her daughter Tammy and son-in-law Jon Carpenter, her grandchildren Jenna and Justin (fiancée Dakota) Carpenter, and her sister Mary (Chuck) Edwards. She is also survived by Ashley (Karen) Jewell, Betty Hale, Edward Jewell, Kitty Jewell, cousins, nieces, nephews and her church family. Sally was predeceased by her son Jonathan in 1991, her parents, in-laws Elaine Jewell, Larry Jewell and Leonard Hale. 

 A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 28th at 2:00 at the Union Baptist Church, Rt 5 South in Waterford, VT, with Pastor Clifton Bullock officiating. Interment is private at the West Barnet Cemetery. There will be no Calling Hours.
