Ruth Mae Richards, age 75, of N. Concord Road, passed away at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury on Saturday, April 6, 2019, after a sudden decline in health.
Ruth was born in St. Johnsbury on April 4, 1944, daughter to the late Edson Eugene and Florence (Wilkins) Garfield. Ruth grew up in St. Johnsbury and met her Sam when he was stationed at the Radar Base in East Haven. They lived on Base in Utah for seven years before moving in August of ’76 to Fairhaven, later to Gilman and then to North Concord in 1978 where they made their home ever since. Ruth worked at the original Ames Department Store for many years and at Gauthier’s Pharmacy for several more. She enjoyed reading, and loved her animals and pets and five horses she had over the years, along with 3 German Shepherds and many cats.
She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 58 years, Samuel Colmer Richards, her daughter: Tammy Richards, both of N. Concord, 3 sisters: Margo Birchard and husband, Robert, of Salisbury, VT, Pauline O’Brien of Middlebury, VT, Dorothy Knox of Terryville, CT, 1 grandson: Justin Richards and wife, Tina, 1great- granddaughter: Faith Richards and 2 step-great-grandchildren: Damian and Dianne Gray.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents; a son: Edson Eugene Richards and a brother: Edson Garfield, Jr.
There will be no services or public a visitation at this time.
