Roland A. Greenwood, 90, passed away quietly March 26, 2025, at the Advent Christian Village in Live Oak, Florida. He was born in Lyndon, Vermont on February 11, 1935. He is the 4th child of Eugene and Helen (Page) Greenwood. Roland graduated from Lyndon Institute with the class of 53, and on December 24th of that year married Grace Moulton. He started work that very same year at the Vermont Tap and Die Company and retiring there 46 years later at what had become Kennametal. He loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, and shooting. He had three successful moose hunts one with a brother-in-law, Roscoe Lund, in Newfoundland, as well as one later in Vermont, and another with friends also in Newfoundland. He successfully hunted caribou in Quebec’s Camp Kiskimaastakin with his son, Tom and two good friends.
He was an avid hiker and completed the NH fire tower quest with his wife and son, Tim. He and Grace joined the Florida Trail Walkers after his retirement.
Roland had a strong work ethic and discipline. He completed an apprenticeship as a machinist in 1976 while fully employed as verified by the Vermont Dept of Labor and Industry. He insisted on working a full-day on his last day at Kennametal rather than to stand around and talk. He was a man of honesty and integrity. On one occasion, upon cashing his check, he realized that the bank-teller gave him $100 too much money, returning immediately. He was a skilled marksman in both handgun and rifle: he won numerous awards at the state level, including the very first VT State Combat Pistol Championship, and again a few year later, and made the Vermont state team shooting bull’s-eye competition, then traveled to Camp Perry, Ohio upon 3 occasions in the 1960‘s.
He is survived by his wife, Grace, of Live Oak, Florida, children, Vicki, of Stowe, VT, Tom (wife Karen), of Lyndon, and Tim, of Rowley, MA, 4 grandchildren, Alicia Reed, Linnea Parizo (Chad), Adina Watson (Nathan), and Collin Greenwood, 13 great grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and a sibling, Bessie Lund (husband Roscoe) of Lyndon. He was predeceased by his parents, a son, Theodore, and 4 siblings.
A Graveside Service will take place at Lyndon Center Cemetery Friday June 13th 2025 at 1PM, with Rev. Joel Stoddert officiating. There will be no Calling Hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the National Rifle Association.
