Robert Michaud

November 3, 1922 — March 14, 2018

Robert B. Michaud, 95, died on March 14, 2018 at The Pine’s Health and Rehabilitation, INC.  He was born November 3, 1922, in Burlington, Vt., the son of Alphonse (Pete) and Ida (Blondin) Michaud.

Robert was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Burlington and enrolled as a student at The University of Vermont in 1941. When U.S. involvement in WWII began, he enlisted in

the Air Corps, United States Army and served with the 20th Air Force in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

After WWII, he continued his education at St. Michaelʼs College and was graduated in the class of 1950 with a BS degree in Business Administration.

In 1948 he married Colleen Douglass of Ferrisburgh and they had five children. Robert is survived by his wife Colleen; daughters Jean Michaud of Arlington VA; Anna and husband

Fred Cowan of Natick, MA and grandsons Jonathan and wife Emilie (LaChance) of Pepperell, MA and Thomas of Millis, MA; sons, Michael and wife Lois (King) of Burke, VT

and grandson David and wife Shona (Galloway) Michaud of Minot ME; Paul and wife Marilyn (Mezaros) Michaud of Somerville, NJ; Peter and wife Paula (Knowles) Michaud

and grandchildren Samuel and Renee Michaud of Cochrane, Alberta Canada. Robert was pre-deceased by his brother Raymond of Eliot ME.

Robertʼs business connections in his native Burlington years were with the Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corp.; McGraw-Edison (successor to Fairchild); and the New York

Life Insurance Company until 1963, when he was appointed to the position of Business Manager at Lyndon State College, Lyndonville, VT. He remained with LSC for nearly

twenty six years retiring in 1988. At Lyndon State, Bob Michaud wore many hats serving as the new campus construction coordinator and saw most of the present campus go

together before leaving employment. He was most proud of the construction of the first Vermont campus building to house a college rescue squad and was considered one of

the founders of the Lyndon State Rescue Squad, now known as Lyndon Rescue, Inc.

Robert was a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Lyndonville, VT and served as chair of the building commission when the church building was restored and re-opened

in 1974. He also held membership in the Lyndonville Rotary Club since 1963 and served as a Corporator for the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, VT

since 1972 when the new hospital was opened for service. He was also a life member of VFW Post 782 in Burlington VT.

In retirement Robert Michaud has written an informal history of Burlington Vermont entitled- Salute to Burlington-that was published in 1991 by Lyndon State College with

proceeds to the scholarship fund for members of the Lyndon State College Rescue Squad. In 1993 he was a contributing writer for the 50th anniversary of VJ Day Edition of

the history of the 19th Bombardment Group published by the 19th Bombardment Association. Robert also authored a second book entitled Mission 40 in 2004.

Bob Michaud was an avid reader and historian who shared his knowledge and library with students and other persons interested in learning.
