Robert "Bob" Maurice Wood

Kirby, VT: Robert “Bob” Maurice Wood, age 83, of Wood Lane, passed peacefully at his daughter’s home in St. Johnsbury, VT, on Saturday, October 7, 2023, following a battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Bob was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, on March 27, 1940, son to the late Maurice Freeman and Minnie Lillian (Moulton) Wood.  He was raised and educated in Kirby graduating in 1959.  On May 19, 1962, he married Suzanne and they shared 61 wonderful years together. He worked the family farm until 1986. He then became Road Commissioner for the Town of Kirby before retiring in 2007 when he began travelling with Suzanne, spending 3 ½ months in Alaska, and by 2020 saw every state except Hawaii.  Bob loved working on the farm and roads of Kirby.  He could fix anything and enjoyed restoring old cars.  He built his own home and garage in Kirby and was a member of the Union Baptist Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne, his 3 children: Daniel Wood (JoAnn) of Deltona, FL, Joanne Lawson of St. Johnsbury, VT, Katrina Roy (Peter) of Colchester, VT, his brother: Rodney Wood (Jeanine LaCoss) of Kirby, VT, his sister: Norma Hockman (John) of Perkasie, PA, 5 grandchildren: Christopher Briggs, Elizabeth Briggs, Adam Lawson, Michael Spillman, David Spillman, 6 great-grandchildren: Jazmine Briggs, Travis Forgues, Natasha Hackett, Derek Hackett, James Spillman, Horizon Spillman; and 2 great-great-grandchildren: Shad Sevard and Ember Mayo and many nieces and nephews.

 He was predeceased by his mother and father, Minnie and Maurice Wood, in 2002 and son-in-law, Richard Lawson, in 2022.

The Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 12 Noon next Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Union Baptist Church, RT 5 in Waterford, VT, Rev. Clifton Bullock officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the church gym.  Burial will take place at 3PM at the South Kirby Cemetery on Kirby Mountain Road.
