Rita C. Woodward, 65, of East Peacham Road, Peacham, Vermont, passed away at the Dartmouth Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, Monday, June 29, 2015, following complications after surgery.
Rita was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, July 4, 1949, daughter to the late Edmund N. and Clara Marie (Bedor) Lessard. She grew up and went to school in St. Johnsbury and on Oct. 28, 1967, she married Richard L.F. Woodward. They made their home in Peacham, raising two boys and she has lived there ever since. For several years she worked at Quality Stitching in St. Johnsbury. Rita's hobbies included quilting, taking trips to York, Maine, plus a journey to Malibu Beach in California along with the road trip with Rob and Rich back to Vermont. Rita liked watching the birds, especially hummingbirds, spending time with her cat, Kittybaby, and every year watching the fireworks on her birthday. She was a longtime blood donor hitting the gallon mark, and she loved BINGO playing often and in nearly every venue throughout the Kingdom. Above this her family was most precious to her and she so very much loved her grandbabies. Her faith was very important to her and she could often be found saying her prayers along with Mother Angelica on EWTN.
Rita is survived by her sons: Richard L.F., Jr. and (Mary Mason) of Passumpsic, Vermont, Robert E. and (Amanda) of Danville, Vermont, her siblings: Ms. Maria Lessard of Barnet, Leo Lessard and (Judy) of Lyndonville, Edmund Lessard and (Diane) of St. Johnsbury, her "Sista": Sandy Bedor of St. Johnsbury, and 3 sisters-in-law: Phyllis Burrington of Danville, Lucy Surridge of Barnet, Vivian May and (Jack) of Marshfield, 3 grandchildren: Ezekiel, Isaiah, and Noah Woodward, an uncle, three aunts, many nieces and nephews and many, many BINGO friends!
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard "Dick" Woodward, Sr. on Oct. 17, 2009, and her brother: Joseph Lessard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2015, at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Danville, Vermont with Rev. Bernard E. Gaudreau as celebrant. Burial will be private.
Friends may call on the family from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening, July 9 at the Sayles Funeral Home on Summer Street in St. Johnsbury.
