Richard Edward Prue
1947-2016
Victory, Vermont

Richard Edward Prue, age 69, of Victory Hill Road, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 18, 2016, following a battle with ALS, with his loving son by his side.

Richard was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, on May 7, 1947, beloved son to the late Edward James and Barbara (Longmoore) Prue.  He was raised and educated in St. Johnsbury, graduating from St. Johnsbury Trade School in 1965.  Richard was faithfully employed with Fairbanks Scales, retiring in 2013 after 45 years of service.

Richard is widely known for the first true love of his life, a black 1966 Chevelle, of which he loved to race on the local streets, back in the day, wearing sunglasses at night. His other passions include hunting and fishing. An avid outdoorsman, Richard loved spending time in the woods and on the water. He enjoyed many successful trips deer hunting in Ontario, Lake Trout and Pike fishing in Quebec, and Brook Trout fishing in Maine. Richard also had great success right here in the Northeast Kingdom. He harvested a number of trophy deer with both his bow and his rifle. As an expert ice fisherman Richard landed a number of trophy fish, including 3 lake trout in excess of 20 pounds. He cherished all of the outdoor experiences he shared with his many close friends, and especially the memories he made hunting and fishing with his son and grandchildren. Richard also enjoyed and looked forward to spending time with his daughter and grandchildren at various camps they rented when they visited every summer.

Richard was extremely proud of his 5 grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with them fishing, four-wheeling, target shooting, and hunting. He was often found at Fisher Field watching his grandsons play baseball, rarely missing a game.

He is survived by his daughter Krystal Gilbert of St. Augustine FL, her husband Mike, son Jake, and Daughter Megan. He is also survived by his son Jon of Lyndonville, his wife Tara, sons Colby and Casey, and daughter Katie. Richard also leaves behind many close life-long friends, his beloved dog Dakota, and all of Red Sox Nation.

Friends may call on the family from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, August 23 at the Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street in St. Johnsbury.

Services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to The Hospice Program at Caledonia Home Health Care.
