He was born on March 5, 1945 in Boswell, Pennsylvania, the son of Charles and Louise (Holeva) Peterson.
Richard grew up in Pennsylvania and at the age of eighteen he joined the Navy and served from 1963-1969. While in the Navy he served on a nuclear submarine during the Vietnam War. After retirement, Richard and his wife built a log cabin home in Vermont where many fond memories were made with family and friends. One of Richard's many mottos was "When in Vermont, you do what you want." He was an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman and a proud member of the NRA. He was an amazing chef and proudly served his meals to all.
After making his home in Vermont, Richard became a member of the American Legion in St. Johnsbury. He was well-known for his homemade pickled eggs which he shared every Wednesday evening.
Richard always had a story to tell and a hand to lend, thinking of others before he thought of himself. We truly lost a wonderful man.
