Reginald C. Deth

December 24, 1939 — July 23, 2024

Reginald Clayton Deth, 84, of East Burke, passed away at North Country Hospital after a long illness with his wife and children by his side.

Reginald was born on December 24, 1939 in St. Johnsbury to Rupert and Rilla (Cross) Deth. The youngest of eight children, Reg lost both of his parents in his late teens. He worked on the family farm with his brother and sister, Wallace and Marge, for several years. In 1964, he bought The Bundy School, which he had attended in first grade. In June 1964 he married Gloria Austin, and they lived their entire 60 years together there.

Reg worked for the Town of Burke road crew for a year before working construction for George Drown from Lyndonville for about 15 years. From there, he moved on to the saw mills in East Burke, then went to Calendar Brook Lumber for many years. In 1996, Reg and his son Brad started R&B White Cedar at his house. After the mill moved, he retired in 2006.

Reg loved riding his four-wheeler around in the woods and pastures on the old farmland until is was sold. He always enjoyed visiting with friends on the phone, discussing everything from the weather to the woods.

Reg was predeceased by his parents; all of his siblings: Kenneth (Elaine) Deth, Frank (Pat) Deth, Catherine (Raymond) Sanderson, Carolyn (Richard) McFarland, Wallace Deth, Marjorie Deth, and Evelyn (Joe) Greenwood; mother- and father-in-law Perley and Bernice Austin; and brothers-in-law Nathan Austin and Raymond Deth.

He is survived by his wife Gloria Deth; son Bradley (Tina) Deth; daughter Della (Russell) McBey; grandchildren and their partners Amber Brown (Ethan Hill), Lawrence Deth (Amber Hinton), and Melissa Fournier (Shane Fournier); great-grandchildren Hannah Hill, Landon Deth, Ryan Deth, Kendall Deth, and Zoe Fournier; sister-in-law Ruth Deth; as well as 14 nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Woodmont Cemetery in East Burke on July 29, 2024 at 10am. There will be no calling hours.

The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Home Health, North Country Hospital, and especially Robert Primeau for the years of wonderful care provided to Reg.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Reg’s memory to Caledonia Home Health & Hospice.
