Raymond Delauder Morton
1939-2016
Peacham, VT
Raymond Delauder Morton, age 77, of Bayley Hazen Road passed away at his home on November 28, 2016.
Raymond was born in Columbus, OH, on May 24, 1939, son of the late Earl and Maryhelen (Delauder) Morton. He graduated from Ohio State University where he was a member of the Ohio State University Marching Band and received his Masters of Education from Miami University. In 1973, he married Dorothy Joeann Griffith and enjoyed 43 years of marriage with her.
In addition to his career as a high school band director, Ray had an entrepreneurial spirit. Dismayed by the poor water quality for residents in the township he lived in, he started the Tate-Monroe Water Association in 1968 with a grant from Housing and Urban Development. The private non-profit company still provides water to residents of southern Clermont County, Ohio. After his retirement, he moved to Vermont, built a home for his family and enjoyed reading, woodworking, tinkering on antique VWs, and playing trumpet in local town bands.
He is survived by his wife: Dorothy J. Morton of West Danville, VT; three sons: Matthew D. Morton (Julie) of Shaw Air Force Base, SC, Andrew R. Morton (Leanne) of New Haven VT, and Aaron M. Morton of West Danville, VT; and six grandchildren: Anika, Elise, Gabriel, John, Gillian, and Ainsley.
He was predeceased by his parents: Earl and Maryhelen, and his grandparents: Ross and Irma Cornell.
No services are planned at this time; a celebration of life ceremony will be held at the convenience of the family this coming year.
