Waterford, VT: Paul Everett Lyon, age 91, of Waterford, VT, passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday April 19, 2025.

Paul was born on May 30, 1933, in St. Johnsbury, VT, in the Lyon family farmhouse, son to the late Murray Edison and Blanche (Heywood) Ladd Lyon. He grew up in St. Johnsbury attending school in the Summerville District and St. Johnsbury Trade School. Paul served in the U.S. Army for 3 years from 1954-57 stationed in Tokyo. He married Sandy (Dutchburn) on September 3, 1960. They lived in St. Johnsbury until moving to Waterford in 1971. Paul worked for George Cohen and later for ET & HK Ide for many years. He eventually began working for himself and built many homes throughout St. Johnsbury, Waterford and surrounding communities.

Paul enjoyed hunting and was an avid fisherman; it didn’t matter if it was summer, winter, fresh water or the ocean! One of his enjoyments was mowing his lawn on his beloved John Deere tractor with stripes needing to be done perfectly! He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Paul was a longtime member of the Passumpsic Masonic Lodge #27, the Mt. Sinai Shriners, Elks and the American Legion. He was fan of the Red Sox and the Washington Redskins.

If you knew Paul, then you had a nickname. Everyone had one, and sometimes it may change. Some were good and some not so good, but every nickname had a story as well to go along with it, and Paul never forgot that story, or you!

He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Sandy, of Waterford, 3 children: Kathy J. Micke (William) of Benton, KY, Michael P. Lyon (Shirley) of Lawrence, MA and Murray A Lyon (Tamara) of Fairbanks, AK, 4 grandchildren William “BJ” Micke (Beth), Timothy Micke, Matthew Lyon (Nicole), Caitlin Lyon (Tommy) and 3 great-grandchildren: Paul, son to William “BJ” and Beth, and Luca & Zelda, son and daughter to Matt & Nicole and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers: Walter A. Ladd and Harold Lyon, 4 sisters: Mildred Lucas, Gertrude Ladd, Wilma Halpin and Barbara Mathews.

Paul and his family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to his caregivers and community for the abundant love, support, and kindness shown. Your generosity and compassion were deeply appreciated.
