Normand Amedee Caron, 83, of the Old Center Road in St. Johnsbury, passed away on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2015, after a brief illness.
He was born in North Danville, Vermont, on April 10, 1932, the son of the late Amedee and Blandine (Gagnon) Caron. He attended Arlington Street and St. Gabriel's school.
Normand worked with his father and brother for over 35 years at Caron's Auto Body Shop until his retirement in 1986. He was renowned for his expert painting and refinished many antique and vintage vehicles. He was a car enthusiast and attended many car shows. He and his brother, Pete, built a car in their earlier days that won various awards. During the summer at the shop, his two nieces were frequent visitors and they became experts at polishing their bicycles under his instruction. He was a very generous and kind man who will never be forgotten.
After retirement, Normand became the caregiver to his dear Aunt Gabrielle and his Uncle Fernand Nadeau, as well as his mother and father.
Normand was a devoted parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church. He had many fond memories of the former Notre Dame des Victoires Church where his parents were married, attended church, and where he received his first Communion and Confirmation.
Normand was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved gardening and sharing this with his friends and family. In his younger years, he loved waterskiing on Joe's Pond and sailing. None of us who spent time at Joe's Pond will ever forget his ability on the water. Driving to the top of Mt. Washington in the middle of the night with his longtime friend, James Liberty of Lyndonville, was also a favorite memory for him. Most recently, they had traveled to Canada and the Coast of Maine. Normand loved Canada and had made many trips to shrines in Quebec over the years.
He is survived by his brother Roland 'Pete' Caron and his wife Denise of St. Johnsbury; two nieces: Diane Caron of St. Johnsbury, and Suzanne Mudge and her husband George also of St. Johnsbury. He is also survived by his great nephew, Jacob Mudge; and his great niece, Deborah Boyle and her husband Jason; as well as his great-grandniece, Shelby and great-grandnephew, David. He is also survived by several beloved cousins.
Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, Dec. 30, from 6-8 p.m. for friends and family.
