Milton 'Milt' Percy

Milton Arnold Percy, 88 of St. Johnsbury passed away on January 9th at his home. Milton was born in Burke Hollow, Vermont on June 20, 1929. He was the son of Arnold Percy and Hazel Walter Percy and spent all of his younger years there. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Rena Begin. They were married for almost 70 years. The couple had four sons and two foster children. He worked at the Grossman saw mill, The Moore Dam Project and Purina Mills before deciding to become a barber in 1961. After his barber schooling was complete, he worked at The Avenue House Barber Shop before buying his own shop in 1967 which he ran for 43 years. He retired in 2012, continuing to service many of his lifelong customers at his home. Milt loved fishing and hunting and always had a story to tell about his adventures. He was a member of the Elks Lodge where he was an active member for over 50 years, serving as Exalted Ruler for three terms. He was also an active member of The Ritual Team for several years. In addition to the Elks, he was a member of The Masons for over 50 years and a member of The Moose Lodge. Milt loved to dance, play his guitar and sing. Most Saturday nights you could find Milt and Rena at the local dance. He enjoyed camping, playing cards and most of all spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Milt is survived by his wife Rena of nearly 70 years; his son: Kevin Percy and wife, Alice, of Concord, Vermont; son: Dale Percy of St. Johnsbury; son: Tim Percy and Susie LeBel of Lyndonville; daughter-in-law: Donna Percy Richardson and husband, Bruce Richardson, of Lyndonville; daughter: Marilyn Stevenson and husband, David, of Barnet; son: Gayten Verge of North Troy; grandson: Michael Percy and wife, Suzie, of Bow, NH; granddaughter: Tammy Mello and husband, Jay, of West Danville; grandson: David Stevenson Jr. of Barnet; grandson: Anikan Percy of Lyndonville; several great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; a niece: Pauline Randall Staves of Tupper Lake, New York; and several great nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by son: Allen Percy; sister: Beulah Randall and husband, Gordon; his beloved niece: Marcia Bishop and husband, Carroll.

Funeral services will be coordinated by Sayles Funeral Home and will include an Elks ritual. Visiting hours will be Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 12:00-2:00pm with the Elks service commencing at 2:00, all at Sayles Funeral Home on Summer Street in St. Johnsbury, VT. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled for a later date.

Burial will take place in Howland Cemetery, Burke, VT, at the convenience of the family.
