Mildred Louise (Lawton) Zanks, 75, of Lyndonville, VT, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
Mildred was born in Manchester, CT, on April 23, 1943 to the late Charles and Marion (Wilson) Lawton. She was raised and educated in Connecticut graduating from Rockville High School in Vernon, CT. She worked in security most of her life; meter maid in Willimantic, CT armed security at Connecticut Yankee Power Plant in Haddam, CT, Norwich Hospital in New London, CT, Phoenix Mutual in Hartford and Rockville General Hospital from which she retired.
Mildred was also a firearms instructor for the State Police in Simsbury, CT. In her retirement she traveled back and forth between Vermont and Connecticut, working at AMES department stores in St. Johnsbury VT, and Enfield, CT, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, and Sears. She settled in Lyndonville, VT, in 2002. Mildred enjoyed knitting and crocheting, cooking, and gardening. She had a really green thumb.
Mildred is survived by her 3 daughters: Bonnie Carpenter and husband, Mark, of Lyndonville, VT, Tina Zanks of St. Johnsbury, VT, and Michelle Lovely and husband, Michael, of Lyndonville, VT; a sister: Mary Dumas, of Pomfet, CT; a brother: James Lawton of Danielson, CT; and 3 grandchildren: Jeremy Carpenter, Kyle Zanks, and Bailey Lovely.
The public may call on the family on Friday, May 11, 2018, 6-8PM, at Guibord Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Lyndonville, VT. There will be no services and burial will be at the convenience of the family at a later time.
