Lyndonville, VT: Mattie Jean Moses, age 83, of Granite Lane, passed peacefully in her sleep Sunday morning, September 24, 2023, following a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s Dementia.
Mattie was born in Berlin, NH, on February 26, 1940, daughter to the late Aldis Spence, Sr. and Helen Mildred (Brunell) Hill. She was raised and educated in Burke and Lyndon and graduated from Lyndon Institute with the Class of 1959. Mattie waitressed early on but in 1975 she moved to Nashua, NH, and worked assembling computer boards until retirement. She married Edgar Robinson in 1981. Edgar played in a Bluegrass band throughout Southern New Hampshire and she loved dancing. Mattie went on with him for years to events until his passing in 2004. She returned to Lyndonville, and was very active in the Lyndonville United Methodist Church, was as a terrific bowler, having several 300 games. She also enjoyed travelling, camping, playing cards, going to casinos from time to time and BINGO, in which she was very lucky at playing. In earlier years she painted with oils and as time bore on, Mattie was a super knitter, making hundreds of booties, afghans, sweaters and ABC blankets. On July 9, 2016, Mattie married Henry Moses and they made their home in Lyndonville.
She is survived by her husband, Henry, 2 children: Penny Pillsbury (Francis) of Lyndonville, Samuel James (Theora “Teddy”) of Burke Hollow, her brother: Aldis S. Hill, Jr., of Huntington, VT, her sister: Priscilla Hodgedon of Granby, VT, 5 Grandchildren: Tim, Fallon, Benjamin, John, Isiah, , Many great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by her son: Mark James, her daughter: Judy Bean, her 2 sisters: Mattie’s infant twin: Mary Jane Hill and also Sharon Gray, and her brother-in-law: Fred Hodgedon and sister-in-law: Lucinda Hill.
Services will be held at 11AM on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Lyndonville United Methodist Church on Church Street in Lyndonville with Rev. Barbara Dwyer.
Private burial will take place at the Burke Hollow Cemetery.
There will be no Calling Hours.
Memorial Donations may be made in Mattie’s name to either the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Lyndonville United Methodist Church.
