Mary Bridget Connelly Greenan, age 87 of Bragg Terrace, St Johnsbury, VT, formerly of Clarence St., Roxbury, MA, passed away very peacefully on Friday, December 23, 2016, with her family by her side.
Mary was born in Boston, MA, on September 10, 1929, daughter to Patrick and Mary T. (Connors) Connelly. She was raised and educated in Roxbury, MA, graduating from St. Patrick’s High School. On February 19, 1955 she married Hugh J. Greenan and they shared 61 years together. She worked as a telephone operator until she and Hugh began to raise their four boys. The family moved to their home in St. Johnsbury in 1966.
Mary enjoyed crocheting and knitting, cooking and vacationing in York Beach, ME. She loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Mary was a member of the Lyndonville chapter of TOPS, participated in school activities at Catholic Central School, and was a member of St John’s Altar Society and St. John the Evangelist Church.
She is survived by her husband: Hugh J. Greenan of St. Johnsbury: four sons: Kevin and his wife Roberta of Palmetto, FL., Paul and his wife Joan of Goffstown, NH, John and his wife Debbie of Quechee, VT, and Mark and his wife Amy of St. Johnsbury; a sister: Catherine Reynolds of Brockton, MA.: and a sister in- law: Margaret Connelly of Lynn, MA; eight grandchildren: Matthew, Michael, Michelle, Mary, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Patrick, and Emma Greenan; and seven great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her parents: Patrick and Mary Connelly; her brothers: Patrick Connelly, James Connelly, Mark Connelly, and Edward Connelly: and a sister: Anne Kenney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. John the Evangelist Church in St. Johnsbury, VT, on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
At Mary’s request, calling hours will be private.
