Marvin Drake, a longtime resident of the NEK, passed away suddenly on November 28, 2022. He was 76 years old. Marvin was born in Derby, Vermont, where he spent his early years. He was one of three brothers born to Verla and Philip Drake. Marv attended Derby Academy where he developed a love for playing music. After graduation he enlisted in the army and served in the special services. While he was stationed in Missouri he developed a love of bluegrass music and playing at officer’s parties. After serving in the army he attended Lyndon State College where he studied business.
His love of music and skiing brought him together with Bobbie Strich, whom he met at Jay Peak. They married in 1975.
Marv and Bobbie took their love of music and created the duo “Bobbie and Me”. They played for many years to a variety of audiences in both Vermont and New Hampshire.
Marvin not only had a passion for music but loved cooking as well. He managed restaurants in the NEK and central Vermont. He and Bobbie ran the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Concord, VT. Before retiring he was the deli manager at Price Chopper. He came out of retirement to manage the Greenside Restaurant at the St. Johnsbury Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Strich, son, Zander Drake of Franconia, NH,and grandchildren, Remi and Josie Drake of Bath, NH. He is also survived by brother, Philip and wife, Theresa, of Newport and brother, Gary, and wife, Alice, of Fletche as well as sister-in-law, Sandy Sullivan and partner, Lori Seaman of Lewes, Delaware.
There will be a Musical Celebration of Life to honor Marv and his love of music in early summer. Musicians/Friends will be invited to play. Details will follow.
