Margaret Drew

March 4, 1966 — September 8, 2024

Margaret Elizabeth Drew, 58, born in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont on March 4, 1966, died on September 8, 2024, in Wheelock, Vermont after a brief but valiant fight with cancer.

Margaret grew up and attended school in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont. She worked in recovery programming at the Kingdom Recovery Center, contributed to the vital film “Here Today”, traveled throughout Vermont to college campuses, town halls, and community spaces as a speaker, and helped many, many people find their sobriety. She co-founded the Aries House for sober living for women reentering the community after incarceration. She served in a leadership role on a Board of Directors for a nonprofit working to promote healthcare equities. She continued the work of serving her community by assisting folks in hospice care, working as a much-loved elder caregiver, and writing grants seeking money for social justice causes near and dear to her heart.

She was most proud of her two kids Curtis and Brittany, her years of sobriety, her time running the Kingdom Recovery Center and Aries House, and her beautiful friends and family. She wielded a magnetic personality, dispensed gentle but hard-earned wisdom, was generous with her time and valuable attention, and was a loyal and rowdy friend to many. She was an avid and eclectic gardener, a lover of classic rock music, and borderline-obsessed with Johnny Depp.

Margaret is survived by her beloved son and daughter-in-law Curtis Masure and Bethany Pye, beloved daughter Brittney Danforth, brother and sister-in-law Rusty Masure and Viola “Dubby” Champney, many cousins including BJ Farman and Tammy Jacoby and their spouses, many nieces and nephews including Corey Masure, Rustin Masure, Jackie Masure Rock, and Jessie Masure Matarazzo, beloved grandsons Reese, Zane, and James, and many, many friends. Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband Garth Drew and her beloved partner Eddie Danforth, her parents Philip and Elaine Masure, her cousin Vince Farman, her sweet pitbull Cody, and many other family members.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 14 from 1-5 pm at Sheffield Town Hall. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to be sent to the Kingdom Recovery Center at 297 Summer St, St Johnsbury, VT 05819. Private online condolences may be shared with the family at CaledoniaLifeServices.com.
