Marcelena Mary Smith, age 84, of New Boston Road, passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, following a period of declining health.
Marcelena was born on November 2, 1933, in Greensboro, VT, daughter to the late Raymond Harry and Dellamore Ida (Gonyaw) DeGreenia. She was raised and educated in Greensboro, VT and Married Lester Gene Smith on November 16, 1950, sharing 42 years at the time of his passing on July 23, 1992. She lived in the area all her life and was a longtime member of the Lyndonville United Methodist Church. Marcelena helped care for many elderly people over the years, worked at Pine Knoll Nursing for 14 years as head cook until retiring in 1989. She was an avid knitter, gardener, instructed aerobics at the Municipal building in Lyndonville for several years starting in 2003. She enjoyed traveling, especially on cruises to Cancun, Panama and the Caribbean. Marcelena was a loving mom, grand and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her sons: Reginald L. Smith of St. Johnsbury, TX, Bryan Smith and wife, Lori, of E. Burke, daughters: Joyce “Jody” Lee of Bulverde, TX, Sylvia Clark of Concord, VT, 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her daughter and granddaughter: Rhonda and Amanda Keene, her brothers: Forrest and Welcome DeGreenia, her sisters: Margaret “Peg” Smith, Drusilla Rica and her son-in-law: Donald Lee.
Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Monday, October 22, 2018, at the Guibord Funeral Home on the corner of Center and Main Street in Lyndonville, VT, with the Rev. Barbara Dwyer officiating. Burial will follow at the North Kirby Cemetery. There will be no Calling Hours.
