Marcie Jo Smith

Marcie Jo Smith, 62, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, surrounded by family and friends at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, St. Johnsbury, VT.

Marcie was born in Springfield, MA on April 18, 1962, eldest daughter to Robert and Janet (Bailey) Smith.  In her early years, the family moved to Wheelock, VT so Marcie could attend local schools.  She graduated from Lyndon Institute, Class of 1981.  Marcie and her cat of 14 years, Sophie, lived in Sutton for five years with her caregivers Letissia and Nathan Diebolt. For the last several months, she resided in Ryegate with her caregiver where she and Sophie could watch activity on the pond outside her window and enjoy all kinds of farm animals and family pets.   

Marcie loved fishing and was always trying to find someone to go with her. Growing up, Marcie shared several mischievous antics with the family horse, Butterball. She liked all animals, but her special love was Green Mountain Pug Rescue.  One of Marcie’s favorite things was to sit on her sister’s kitchen floor surrounded by playful Pugs.  She also traveled all over with her family to rescue events. In these last years, Marcie enjoyed listening to Scottish music. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her parents: Robert and Janet Smith of Wheelock; her sister: Karen Martell and husband Darin of Tampa, FL; and a daughter: Mary Elizabeth Flood of North Troy, VT.

A Graveside Service officiated by Ann Hockridge will be held this Sunday, June 2, 2024, 2:00PM at Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Wheelock, VT. Calling hours will be on Saturday, June 1, 2024, 2-4PM at Guibord-Pearsons Funeral Home, 15 Main Street in Lyndonville, VT.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Marcie’s name can be made to Green Mountain Pug Rescue (GMPR), 283 Town Line Road, Mendon, VT 05701.
