Luc Rancourt, 57, of Memorial Dr. in St. Johnsbury and native of West Stewartstown, New Hampshire, passed away at sunrise on Thursday morning, Feb. 16, 2017 after a two year battle with A.L.S., Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. His faith was such that he knew he was going to a better place.
He was born in West Stewartstown, New Hampshire on May 24, 1959, one of six children born to Victor and Rachel (Hebert) Rancourt. He graduated from Canaan Memorial High School in 1978. His father passed away in 1995.
His family will remember Luc as a kind, gentle family man. Sports played an important part in his younger years; he was a 1000 point scorer for the Canaan Memorial basketball team. When the kids were little he loved to take them ice fishing and coached his sons’ basketball teams.
Luc was a finish carpenter by trade and enjoyed working with his brothers. Recently Luc had worked for Northeast Kingdom Human Services as a community integration specialist. He loved life, loved to laugh and tease, and really loved to play Texas hold-em at The Breslin Center and the Lyndon American Legion. For the last six years he was a seasonal camper at the Groton Forest Road Campground.
He is survived by his mother Mrs. Rachel Rancourt of West Stewartstown, NH; his loving and attentive partner Lucy McKee of St. Johnsbury; two of his three children: Kyla Meszkat and husband Bryan of Elmore, VT., Clint Rancourt and wife Joshlynne of Island Pond VT; son Travis predeceased him in 2009; three grandchildren Maximillian Meszkat, Brielle and Colton Rancourt; Lucy’s three children: Joel and Aaron Collins (wife Gerry), Amber Adams (husband Sam) and their children Sebastien, Ava and Kimari, and Benson (who loved his Pepere!); three brothers Marc Rancourt and wife Joanne of West Stewartstown NH, Jules Rancourt and wife Judy of Pittsburg, NH, Ronald Rancourt and wife Katherine of Virginia Beach VA; two sisters: Carmen Riley and husband Ross, Celine Fuller and husband Larry both of Canaan VT; numerous nieces and nephews as well as the extended Rancourt family.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated in West Stewartstown on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Albert’s Church, 10 Church St. Burial will be at a later date at the St. Albert’s Cemetery in West Stewartstown. There will be no visiting hours.
