Lionel Sidney “Skip” Easter, 83, of Victory Hill in Victory, VT, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at his home.
Skip was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, on March 3, 1934, to the late Floyd E. and Edith V. (Shastany) Easter. He was raised and educated in St. Johnsbury and lived for many years in North Concord, VT. At the age of 17, Skip started the only job he ever had at Fairbanks Morse in the foundry and later in shipping and driving truck. Over his more than 43 years there he did almost every job they had. Skip served in the National Guard for 8 years. On May 25, 1991, he married Carol Faye Kidder. They shared 35 years together. The couple has lived in Victory since 1990. Skip has served as Constable and was serving his 4th year as Selectman at the time of his death.
In the 1960s, Skip was a racecar driver competing at Northeastern in Waterford, Thunder Road in Barre, and Riverside in Groveton, NH. He continued to follow racing after his driving career was finished. He enjoyed watching football and was a Pat’s fan. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, mainly deer hunting.
He is survived by his wife: Carol Easter of Victory, VT; a son: Duane Easter and Cathy of Providence, RI; two step-sons: Daniel Gray and Liz of St. Johnsbury, VT, and Michael Gray and Lori of Barre, VT; two brothers: Donald Easter and Bonnie of Barnet, VT, and Douglas Easter and Hildegard (Sparrow) of East Burke, VT; a sister: Roxanne Stacey and A.J. of Mooresville, NC; and a foster brother: Robert Desilets of East Hartford, CT; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Skip was predeceased by four brothers: Gene, James, Rodney, and Paul Easter.
There will be no calling hours at this time. A graveside service will be held in late June at Grove Cemetery in East St. Johnsbury, VT.
