Lillian Irene Snelling, age 98, of Thrush Lane, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Monday, January 29, 2018.
Lillian was born in Lyndonville, VT, on August 31, 1919, daughter to the late Jessippe and Obeline (Emmons) Hebert. She was raised and educated in Lyndonville and graduated from Lyndon Institute with the Class of 1937. Early on Lillian was an avid hunter, spending many hours over the years hunting rabbits, deer and even squirrel, and many of the latter when they got too close to her bird feeders. One of her happiest days was when she received her Permanent VT Hunting License in 1985. On May 18, 1941, she married Donald Paige Snelling and shared 42 years together at the time of his death in 1983. Lillian was a stay at home mom but was very involved in crafts belonging to the Home Dems for years. She made hundreds of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls selling them at fairs, craft fairs all around northern Vermont, New Hampshire and all around the world. She was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church for many years where she played the organ. Lillian and Don enjoyed some traveling, snowmobiling and camping over the years and after his passing she continued to travel, going anywhere she felt like. She did not live a dull life. In recent years she joined the senior exercise group at the Graded School in Lyndonville and their trips to Bagel Depot for lunch following.
