Leo Albert Greenwood, age 84, of St. Johnsbury, VT passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Leo was born in St. Johnsbury on October 13, 1939, to Leo W. and Elizabeth S. (Moses) Greenwood. He attended St. Johnsbury Trade School, graduating in 1958 as Valedictorian. On June 20th of 1959, Leo married Dale Louise Beam. Just a few months later, in November, Leo joined the U. S. Army. He was honorably discharged on August 30, 1962. After returning from the military, he worked at Fairbanks Scales for many years, then in 1984 moved his family to Rochester, NH where he worked at Thompson Center Firearms. Leo and Dale shared 39 years together before Dale’s death in 1996.
For enjoyment, Leo gardened and hiked. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and a Secular Franciscan.
Survivors include children: Brian and wife Lucy of Wheelock, VT, Todd and wife Wendy of Lyndon, VT, and Shawn of St. Johnsbury; a sister: Pam Parenteau and husband Roger of St. Johnsbury; a daughter-in-law: Ann; son-in-law: Robert Achilles; and two sisters-in-law: Nancy and Linda; grandchildren: Desiree (Jerry), Brittney (Chris); Krystyna (Ryan), Kyle (Ashley), Joseph (Madison), Quentin, and Cullan; and many great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife: Dale; brothers: Richard and Bruce; sister: Elizabeth; children: Forrest (Tony) and Lorrie Achilles; and grandson: Matthew Greenwood.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 24, 2023, 10AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, Winter Street in St. Johnsbury, VT with burial immediately following at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Hill Street, Lyndonville, VT.
