Leah Faith Smith, age 96, formerly of Smiths Road in Lyndonville, VT, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at her caregiver’s home on Pudding Hill.
Leah was born in St. Johnsbury, VT on June 8, 1921, to Alfred and Iva (Davidson) Cox. She attended local schools and graduated from Lyndon Institute, Class of 1941. On June 21, 1941, she married Howard Henry Smith and spent the next 29 years until his death in 1970, raising their family together.
Leah was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed raising her family, cooking for them, and following her children’s school and sporting events. Leah also liked playing cards, playing cribbage, and working crossword puzzles. She enjoyed feeding wild birds and watching other wildlife as well as traveling the back roads of the Northeast Kingdom. She was a former member of the Lyndonville Congregational Church and a member of the Lyndon Women’s Club.
She is survived by 3 sons: Wayne Smith and wife, Jacqueline, of Wheelock, VT, Marvin Smith and wife, Elaine, of Lyndon, VT, and Donald Smith and wife, Valli, of Lyndonville, VT; a daughter Paula Smith of Norwood, MA; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Leah was predeceased by her husband: Howard H. Smith; son: Bruce Smith; 2 brothers: Elmer and Maynard Cox; and 4 sisters: Ruth Rivers, Zelda Simpson, Hazel Dwinell and Louise Cox.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday March 14, 2018 from 6-8 pm, at Guibord Funeral Home, 15 Main Street in Lyndonville, VT. Funeral service will beThursday March 15, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Guibord Funeral Home, 15 Main Street in Lyndonville, VT.; officiated by John Sleeper.
Burial will be in the spring at Lyndon Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Leah’s name to Lyndon Institute.
