 Waterford, VT: Lawrence W. “Larry" Barrett, age 80, of Simpson Brook Road, died at home unexpectedly and was pronounced deceased at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, Saturday evening, June 1, 2024. He was surrounded by family members.

 Larry was born in Saddle River, NJ, on November 29, 1943, son to the late Robert Gaines and Alice Dorothy (Morrill) Barrett.  He grew up in Ramsey, NJ, graduating from Ramsey High School in the Class of 1961. He worked in construction, sold life insurance for Prudential, and worked for the Cog Railway as Engineer in the 1960's and then again from 1997-2006. On August 15, 1969, he married Laura E. Penniman. Larry attended UNH and graduated from the pre-vet program in 1972. He was a professional horse trainer, drove trucks for RPS, worked in maintenance for NCMC, volunteered as a paramedic and firefighter for the towns of Barnet and Waterford. He was an EMT instructor, and when CALEX was being formed, Larry was part of its creation and coined the name CALEX, as well. Larry gave his time back to the community in many aspects, one of which was organizing the Passumpsic Green Up Day. He also helped institute the laws and practices for St. Johnsbury landlords. Besides training horses and riders, Larry also served as President of the Teague Memorial Scholarship, organized the equestrian jumping crews, and served as ringmaster and judge for area horse shows.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Laura Barrett of Waterford, 5 sons: Travis Barrett (Sandra) of Waterford, Tristan Barrett of St. Johnsbury, Trevor Barrett (Hannah Simons) also of St. Johnsbury, Trace Barrett (Ashley) of Ft. Collins, CO, Troy Barrett (Paige) of Danville, VT, his sister Helen Watson of St. Johnsbury, his brother-in-law: Kenneth Ackerson of Franklin, NH, grandchildren: Eli, Eden, Solstice, Finnegan, Brahms, Caleb, Kenzee, Taylor, Tucker, Benjamin, Brae, Larke, Riley, Taryn, Tyler, and 4 great-grandchildren.

 He was predeceased by 2 sisters: Susan Ackerson and Rachel Tomosieski.

Services will be held at The Passumpsic Community Baptist Church; 4544 US Route 5; Barnet, VT, on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 12PM.
