Joyce Marie (Placey) Bryer, 77, of Winter Haven Florida, passed away November 17, 2016 at Lake Wales Memorial Hospital, in Lake Wales, Florida, surrounded by her family.
She was born to Vivian (Somers) Placey and the late Gordon Placey, Sr. on September 29, 1939 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Joyce graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in June 1958, and married Richard Bryer on November 8, 1958.
For most of her life, Joyce was a home maker. She enjoyed traveling, especially in their RV. She loved working with children. While living in Milton, Vermont, along with her good friend, Carol McGrath, she became a Girl Scout leader. 1972 brought her to Concord, Vermont, where she soon became a 4-H Leader.
They relocated to Lunenburg, Vermont, and built a home on Neal Pond. She was happiest when hosting family get-togethers at “Camp”. She was active in her community, serving as Town Lister and Chairman of the Old Home Day Committee for several years. They later relocated to Winter Haven, Florida.
Joyce is survived by husband, Richard Bryer; three daughters: Judith Balch and husband Gardner Balch, Jr., Patricia Babcock and partner James Soden II, and Victoria Bryer; seven grandchildren: Meghan Babcock, Charles Babcock, Benjamin Balch, William Balch, Floyd Johnson, George Teroni III, and Josie Teroni; two great grandchildren: Carson Balch and Kennedy Balch; mother, Vivian Placey; sister Noreen Newland and husband Jack Newland; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Gordon Placey, Sr.; her brother, Gordon Placey, Jr.; her sister Mary Chandler; granddaughter, Desiree Balch; and son-in-law, William Babcock.
