Joseph Miller, Jr.

Joseph Francis Miller Jr. born December 18, 1948 died peacefully at home Friday, July 21st.

He is survived by his beloved wife: Marylou of Peacham; 2 daughters: Chelsea Miller (Bruce Smith) of NYC and Julianne Miller (Travis Hodgkins) of Plainfield, VT; son: Gavin Miller (Molly Kennedy) of Peacham; his sister: Marcia Kidston (Donald) of Hull, MA; and two young grandchildren: Jaxson and Jonah Hodgkins.

Joseph moved to Vermont in the mid 70's and was renowned for his exceptional Post and Beam Carpentry and Metalwork. Few have lived a life so full, a man who was kind to the land, had a dialogue with birds, bees and frogs alike, for him the way to understanding was to break apart the unknown and put it back together again. By his example we were reminded never to take anything too seriously, least of all ourselves and if we didn't like the weather, wait awhile.

His imagination was unmatched, his plans to build new things would span many lifetimes, he leaves much undone but has put in motion endless positivity and inspiration. Through him we are moved to be our best selves, taking every opportunity to love as fully as he did.

There will be a celebration of his life, in early September, at the family home in Peacham.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Peacham Historical Association may be made in his memory (Attn: Joe Miller Donation, PO Box 101, Peacham, VT 05862).
