John Waldron, Jr.

Mr. John H Waldron Jr., of Lower Waterford, VT, passed away quietly at home on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the age of 85, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

John was born in Stratford, CT to parents John and Martha (Ring) Waldron on Feb 27, 1931. He attended Milford High School in Milford, CT, and was a member of the National Champion Bowling Team his senior year.  In 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Becker, and enlisted in the US Navy. After his tour in the Navy, John returned to Connecticut where he worked in several positions, settling at Norden Division United Aircraft Corp. in Norwalk, CT.  The family often vacationed in Vermont with friends.  In 1964, John accepted a position with Fairbanks Scales in St Johnsbury, and moved his growing family north. He worked at Fairbanks for over 20 years and then took on various other jobs until he retired in 1996.  In his early years in Vermont, John was also a part time deputy sheriff with the Caledonia County Sheriff’s Dept. The family moved to Lower Waterford in 1972, where John became active with the Lower Waterford Congregational Church, most notably as treasurer and for his efforts to coordinate much needed historically compliant renovations. In his younger days he was very active in the local softball scene.    He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a die-hard bowler his entire life.

John is survived by four children, a son: Gary Waldron of Douglasville GA, daughter: Dawn Bennett and husband Melvin of St. Johnsbury, son: Shawn Waldron and wife, Mary, of Sutton, and daughter: Lisa Adams and husband, Keith, of Hanson, MA; seven grandchildren: Matthew Waldron, Megan (Waldron) Spence and husband, Daniel, Rebecca (Bennett) Goss and husband, Milton, Amber Bennett and significant other, Carl Vance, Jessica (Waldron) Shover and husband, Luke, and Madison and Nicholas Adams; five great-grandchildren, Harper Waldron, Landon and Danielle Spence, Gunnar Goss, and Mabel Shover; sister-in-law’s Susan (Post) Becker of Milford, CT, Beverly (Becker) Charland and husband Andrew of Milford, CT;  as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley (Becker) Waldron in 2007, parents John and Martha Waldron, and sister: Ruth Waldron.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug 6, 2016, at 12 p.m. at the Lower Waterford Congregational Church with the pastor, the Rev. Ann Hockridge officiating.

Prior to the service, visiting hours will be held at the church beginning at 11 a.m.  People are asked to use the early part of that time to pay their respects and offer their condolences. A light luncheon will be held in the church following the services.

Cremation will take place following the service, with a private internment date to be determined by the family.
