John Wesley Stanley passed away at his home of 64 years in Concord, VT on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
John was born on October 22, 1933, to Henry and Elizabeth (Phelps) Stanley in Victory, VT. He attended South Victory Grade School and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy.
On March 26, 1954, he married Arlene Vachon. They were married for 61 years until her passing in 2015.
He worked at Fairbanks Scale Company as the Shipping Supervisor for many years and was the administrator for the Moose Club for over 20 years.
John enjoyed hunting and fishing, bringing home many trophy bucks. He spent many hours camping and exploring the forests of the Northeast Kingdom. There were not many places his jeep could not go and if needed he had a winch.
His service to the community included being an auditor for the town of Victory and a selectman for the town of Concord. He participated in many Holidays in the Hills events to earn money to bring electricity to Victory and Granby.
He belonged to many clubs and fraternal organizations including past member and officer of the St. Johnsbury Elks Club, past President and Charter Secretary of St. Johnsbury Lions Club, past Governor and Administrator of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Moose River Lodge in Concord, VT, member Scottish Rite St. Johnsbury, Barre, Montpelier and Burlington.
He is survived by daughter Susan Langmaid (Alan) of St. Johnsbury. Grandson Jeffrey Langmaid (Erin) and granddaughter Kelly Richardson. Great grandchildren Audrey, Ian, Ida, Henry and Lila.
He was predeceased by his son Steven Stanley, as well as brother George Stanley, sisters Ellen Brown (Bill), Elizabeth Finn (Alban) and Joan Stanley.
At his request there will be no calling hours. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 30 at 1:00 at the Concord Village Cemetery. Ann Hockridge officiating.
