John Simon

John (Ted) Simon died peacefully in Mt. Auburn Hospital on January 1, 2018 in Cambridge, MA at the age of 92.

Ted is survived by his sons, Marc O. Simon of Belmont, CA and David E. Simon of Marlborough, MA; his granddaughters, Maggie and Sophia; his sister-in-law, Myra Joy Simon of VA; his cousin, Miriam Preminger of Boca Raton, FL; his nieces and nephews, - in the US: Michele and Alberto, Danielle and Chris, Eric and Jenny, - in Europe: Christina and Tres, Felix and Claudia, Res, and Tobias, in Israel: Daniel and Dorith; and several grandnieces and grandnephews in the US, Europe and Israel. He is preceded in death by his wife, Brigitta (née Walther) of Aarau, Switzerland, his brothers, Raymond of Dobbs Ferry, NY, Georg (Aryeh) of Ben Shemen, Israel, and Rudolf (Daniel) of White Plains, NY.

Ted was born on August 31, 1925 in Mainz, Germany to Paul and Sophie (née Frank) Simon. He emigrated to the United States in 1941. Ted served in the US Army during WWII and was involved in campaigns in the European Theater during 1944 and 1945. Following his discharge, he attended and graduated from Columbia University. Ted started his working career by starting a business creating fine furniture and cabinetry from exotic woods from around the globe. After several years, he changed career becoming a mathematics teacher at the White Plains High School in White Plains, NY. He married Brigitta Walther in 1961. Ted and Brigitta lived in Pleasantville, NY and raised their two sons, Marc and David. Ted retired from teaching in 1982 and upon the death of Brigitta in 1986, moved to Peacham, VT.

Ted was an avid carpenter, tinkerer, gardener, and computer enthusiast. He was a generous individual who often volunteered his time and skills to help friends and family with home remodeling and repair projects.

A funeral is scheduled for 2pm on May 18th at the town cemetery in Peacham, VT. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ted’s life.
