John Rice

John Harold Rice, 74, of Concord, VT passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

John was born in Lyndon, VT on May 23, 1950, to Harold and Olivette (Grenier) Rice. He grew up on Pudding Hill in Lyndonville and graduated from Lyndon Institute, Class of 1968. He worked for several companies including Flexible Tubing, Weymouth Auto Parts, N.E. Tools, and ended his working career at Ruggco. He spent many an evening and weekend working on vehicles for family, friends and neighbors. 

John enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and snowmobiling. He loved to dance and could be found at Max’s Dance Hall and Sorrell’s in his earlier youth and adult years. Being at the Grange Hall in Lyndonville for square dancing was also a highlight for him. John served in the Vermont National Guard for 22 years. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 30 Lyndon VT where he was the Sergeant at Arms at the time of his death. 

Survivors include his three children: Charles J. Rice of South Wheelock, Shane Rice and wife Tanika of Lyndonville, and Tiffany Rice of South Wheelock; two brothers: Richard and wife Judy of Sutton, VT and Michael and wife Cindy of Lyndonville; and seven grandchildren: Taran, Chase, Austin, and Jayde Rice, and Alexander, Lucas, and Ivy Leach. 

He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Carol Ann Rice Berryman and niece Stephanie Berryman-DePaula.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, July 26, from 5-7 PM at Guibord-Pearsons Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Lyndonville, VT.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 17, from 1 – 4 pm. at the American Legion Post 30, 4854 Memorial Drive, Lyndonville Vt.
