John S. Oliver, 78, of Hollow View Drive, St. Johnsbury, VT passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at his home with his family by his side.
John was born in Woodsville, NH on April 8, 1945, to George W. and Phyllis M. (Willey) Oliver. He served in the Army from 1962 to 1964. On October 31, 1981, John married Christine Donaghy, sharing 42 years together. John worked for himself in Construction, as well as working on the construction of I91 from Brattleboro on up.
Along with working outdoors, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sugaring. He loved building things and helping people, but his greatest love was his family. John was a lifetime member of the Lyndonville VFW and the Moose Club. He served as Treasurer of the Moose Club and was named "Moose of the Year."
Survivors include his wife: Christine Oliver of St. Johnsbury, VT; his children: Eric Oliver and partner Brittany LaCoss of St. Johnsbury and Rose Oliver of Gainsboro, TN; a sister: Nancy Bean and husband Earl of Saratoga, NY; 3 grandchildren: Dustin and Kimberly Flatt and Ryder Oliver; 1 great-grandchild: Preston Flatt; several nieces and nephews as well as several stepbrothers and stepsisters.
He was predeceased by his parents: George Oliver and Phyllis Willey; 2 brothers: Harry Oliver and George Oliver, Jr; and 4 sisters: Marion Deschamps, Phyllis Minshull, Betty Madden, and Marjorie Salomma.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, December 21, 2023, 6-8PM at Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street, St. Johnsbury, VT. Burial will be in the spring at Grove Cemetery.
