John Adrian Newpher (Jan), born Aug. 9, 1946, passed away July 29, 2022, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s.
He had been residing at The Pines Nursing Home in Lyndonville, Vt., but had previously lived in other towns in the Northeast Kingdom area of Vermont.
Born in Hazletown, Pa., to Rev. John D. Newpher and Gladys Hoover Newpher, he grew up in New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Oreland, Pa. He graduated from Millersville State College, (now University) in Pennsylvania. His continued schooling included certification in electrical work and a master’s degree in Christian Education at The Philadelphia Lutheran Theological Seminary.
With his former wife, Darlene Tyce, (divorced), he moved to Vermont in 1982. He was a reporter and editor with The Caledonian-Record in St. Johnsbury for many years until his retirement.
He is survived by two sisters: Valerie (Stephen), and Pamela (Edward), and nieces (Alena and Skye) and nephew (Evan). He was predeceased by his brother Timothy.
