Lyndonville, VT: John Thomas "Jack" Perry, age 71, of Red Village Road, passed away peacefully at his cherished home on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, following a decline in health.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, on June 26, 1952, to the late John Francis and Kathleen Rose (Loftus) Perry, Jack's journey took him from the bustling streets of Somerville, NJ, to the serene landscapes of Vermont. A graduate of Somerville High's Class of 1970, Jack went on to attend Lyndon State College, where he began to cultivate the passions that would define his life.
Jack was a man of many interests and talents. He was an avid fisherman, never missing a chance to cast a line, whether in the icy chill of winter or the warm embrace of summer. His love for the outdoors extended to his garden, where he spent countless hours nurturing plants and enjoying the simple pleasures of nature. A devoted animal lover, he delighted in raising dogs.
He was renowned for his sense of humor, often sharing stories that left everyone in stitches. Jack had a gift for nicknames and a playful spirit that endeared him to all who knew him. His fascination with classic cars and Civil War history was well-known among his friends and family. Jack could often be found engrossed in a new history book, always eager to share his latest discoveries.
A member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Jack was also a first-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, embodying the values of faith and community service. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through when he owned and operated the General Store in West Burke from 1972 to 1986, a beloved local hub where he also ran a taxidermy shop.
In 1986, Jack found his calling at Lyndon Institute, where he worked as a bus driver and then the transportation director until his retirement in 2017. His colleagues and students remember him for his unwavering dedication and his warm, approachable nature.
Jack loved gardening, fishing, and every moment spent with his loved ones. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
Above all, Jack's legacy is one of love and devotion to his family He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Twiladawn (Wakefield) Perry of Lyndonville; his son, Michael Lovely, his wife Ashley (Merrill), and his beloved granddaughter, Kennedy, of Raymond, NH; his daughter, Carlie Beck of Greenville, SC; and his three sisters, Kathleen Perry Hall and her partner Steven Adler of St Johnsbury, VT, Nancy Piserchia of Jay, NY, Marueen Perry of Babson Park FL; and countless nieces and nephews. His wife, children, grandchild, extended family, and countless friends will miss his gentle spirit, his wisdom, and his infectious enthusiasm for life.
Friends may call on the family from 1-3pm on Sunday June 9th, 2024, at the Guibord-Pearsons Funeral Home, 15 Main Street in Lyndonville, VT.
A Graveside Service will be held at 3pm, Monday June 10th, 2024, at the North Kirby Cemetery in Kirby VT with Dc. Rick Hilton and Dc. Jason Sanderson officiating.
Memorial donations can be made in Jack’s honor to the Fairbanks Museum, 1302 Main Street, Saint Johnsbury, VT 05819.
