North Concord, VT: John Arthur Gagne, age 77, of 207 Wesley Road, passed away at the Country Village Center in Lancaster, NH, Saturday December 30, 2017.
John was born in Fitchburg, MA on September 2, 1940, son of the late Dollard Romain Gagne and Lillian (Peters) Gagne. He grew up in Fitchburg, MA and was always a fighter. He was born with scoliosis, and underwent multiple different surgeries throughout his life which left him with a disability. Hospitalized for long periods of time in his childhood left him with only a 5th grade education. Despite all of these challenges, he never allowed this to slow him down and continued to push forward throughout his life.
He was a lifelong truck driver, he drove for many years for Tucker Housewares, and in shipping and receiving. He drove as a taxi cab driver for some time, and then for Foamtech until he retired. Though he was never in the military, he was a lifetime member of the Amvets Post 29 in Fitchburg, MA. John was an avid fishermen and hunter; he also enjoyed watching wrestling, westerns, and movies on television. He also enjoyed listening to country music and doing search a word puzzles. He moved to North Concord in 2002 with his wife, where they purchased their first home to be near family, because to him family was very important, and always came first.
He is survived by his 3 children: Donna M. Conley & partner Troy Fortin of North Concord, John M. Gagne & partner Julie May of Fitchburg, MA, and April L. Young and husband Chris of Mesa, Arizona; 2 grandchildren that he raised as his own: Annalise R. Gagne and John M. (Mikey) Gagne of North Concord and daughter Georgianna Losh and husband Rich of Lunenburg, VT; 19 grandchildren: Tammy, Matthew, Elysia, Brittany, Anthony, Kaytlin, Ambre, Allison, Christopher, Tyson, Annalise, Mikey, Jasmine, Troy, Bryan, Kristian, Corey, William and Shawnee; and 17 great grandchildren; a sister: Carole Martin of Townsend, MA; 2 brothers: James gagne of Clinton, MA and Ricky Gagne of Lunenburg, MA; and a step sister: Betty Shortsleeve.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Carol May (Gauvin) Gagne in 2014, son-in-law Gerald A. Conley in 2015, brother Charles and stepbrothers Howard and Gordon Gardner.
Calling hours will be held from 5-7PM on Wednesday January 10, 2018, at the Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street, St. Johnsbury, VT.
Burial will take place at a later date at Forest Hills Cemetery in Fitchburg, MA.
