Johanna Josephine Donaldson, age 80, of Sawmill Lane, passed away peacefully at her home of 77 years.
Johanna was born in Newark, VT on December 5, 1936, daughter to the late Benjamin Alexander and Stella Minnie (Page) Donaldson. She was raised, educated and spent all of her life in Lyndon. Her father owned the Donaldson’s Bobbin Mill and due to a fire at the mill, Johanna, as well as her brother and sister, had to quit school to work at the shoe factory to earn enough to rebuild and keep the family business. When her father took ill, Johanna took over the day to day operations and daily reported back to him about the family business. She also worked at the Burndys, Fairbanks, Weidman, did housecleaning, and spent some time as a caregiver. Outside of work Johanna was a very happy and content homebody.
Johanna is survived by her sister: Sally Canning of Lyndon, VT; a favorite nephew, Rocky Donaldson; a special niece, Serena Donaldson Leonard; two great nieces and a great nephew.
She was predeceased by a brother: Raymond Donaldson; two young sisters: Audrey and Prunella; and a special niece, Nerissa Donaldson Young who passed away last fall.
A graveside service will be held on August 18, 2017 at 10am at Woodmont Cemetery in East Burke, VT with Barbra Dwyer officiating. A gathering will follow at 12 noon at the farmhouse at 49 Sawmill Lane in Lyndon and all are welcome and encouraged to attend.
