Joan C. Poulos, age 85 of St. Johnsbury, was united with her Lord on Sunday, December 10, 2017 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Born in Montpelier, VT on November 7, 1932, Joan is one of three children born to H. Elliott and Lorette (Beauregard) Corning. She graduated from St. Michael's High School in Montpelier in 1950.
On October 6, 1956 Joan married Paul Whiting Poulos. They made their home in Montpelier until 1969 when they moved to St. Johnsbury. They divorced in 1981.
Joan was a dedicated Catholic and member of St. John the Evangelist Church. Joan's life was dedicated to being a wife, mother and homemaker. Her legacy of compassion, love and caring have left a deep void in our hearts. Joan was a gentle soul and her love for children and animals was a joy to behold. She always made time for her family and friends, providing countless hours of advice and guidance that came directly from her heart.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Nancy Poulos (Mike Gosselin) of St. Johnsbury and her son Richard Poulos of St. Johnsbury; five grandchildren: Michelle Robinson of St. Johnsbury, Kellie Largay (Ryan) of St. Johnsbury and Melissa McDonald (Trevor McComak) of Destin, FL, Kathryn Poulos (Chad Weikel) of St. Johnsbury and Steven Poulos of Newfoundland. As well as her two great-grandsons, Landon and Brydon; her sister Barbara Nelson-Brown of Montpelier, brother John Corning (Suzanne) of Venice, FL; her former husband Paul Poulos, who remained a very supportive friend; nieces and nephews.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, H. Elliott and Lorette Corning as well as brother-in-laws Kenneth Nelson and George Brown and nephew Steven Nelson.
Joan's life will be celebrated with a funeral mass in St. Johnsbury on Tuesday, December 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will be at a later date. There will be no visiting hours.
A loving thanks to the staff and management of Maple Lane Nursing Home for the abundance of care, love, devotion, hugs and kisses that you showered our Mother with, for the last 3 ½ years.
