Jean Marion Magill Gilman, 80, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 2, 2023 at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital.
Jean was born on February 4, 1943 in Newark, VT to the late Freeman “Bill” and Marian Magill. She grew up behind the ears of a horse on her family farm in West Burke, which was known most of all for her dad’s Belgian pulling horses. She attended Fanny Allen School of Nursing and worked at Brightlook Hospital and Pine Knoll Community Care before changing careers to become an Administrative Assistant at Lyndon Institute for 24 years.
Jean was active in her community as a member of the Lyndonville Methodist Church and Sheffield Federated Church, as well as the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Often seen around town in her Red Sox cap, she was known for her pumpkin pie, crocheting & knitting skills, and her beloved dog Prince Harry.
In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her infant brother Richard and her brothers in-law Donald Simpson and Terry Flood.
She leaves behind her son, Thomas D. Gilman; daughter-in-law and friend Peggy Gammell; grandchildren Jacob Freeman (Shara), Owen Thomas, and Olivia Grace (Devin) Gilman; beloved sisters Jane R. Flood and Susan M. Simpson; very special aunts Elizabeth, Lillian, and Lottie; Tom’s dad Duane Gilman; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
There will be a graveside celebration of Jean’s life at Woodmont Cemetery in Burke on June 7th, 2024 at 10:00am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jean’s memory can be made to East Haven Veterinary Service.
