James O. Roy, age 86, of Thaddeus Stevens Road, passed away with family around him at the Northeaster Vermont Regional Hospital, Saturday morning, Dec. 5, 2015, following a long period of declining health.
Jim was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt, July 3, 1929, son to the late Arthur Francis and Iona Mae (Blaine) Roy. He was raised and educated in Danville graduating from Vermont Agricultural School. He met his beloved wife, Alfreda "Freda" N. Baird while singing in the Danville Congregational Church Choir in the early 1950s. They married on Sept. 11, 1953 and celebrated 62 years together this past year. Jim was a dairy farmer and was happy to be so all his life. He also owned and operated Farm Roy Trucking along with the dairy business and drove for St. J Auto transporting vehicles. Jim enjoyed travelling, camping, farming and was an avid Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan. He was a member of the Danville Methodist Church and held very fond memories of all members of the Church. He held membership at the Cabot Creamery, and was President of the VAST Association during the mid seventies.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Freda, of Danville, include his sons: Peter and wife, Katrina, of Colchester, Vt., Blaine and wife, Diane, of Danville, his daughter: Bonnie Desaulinier and husband, Bob, of East Hampton, Conn., Jim had a strong love for each and every one of his grandchildren: Vickie Roy and companion, Ben Tourangeau, Colby Cochran and companion, Josh Bassett, Jacob Roy and Blaine "BJ" Roy, two great-grandsons: Michael Houde, Holden Cochran and a new addition coming in May along with several cherished nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by his brother: A. Francis Roy and sister: Marion Bradley.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, at the Danville Green Cemetery, with the Rev. Susan Mackay officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
