Irma Mae Newell Rist

                St. Johnsbury, VT: Irma Mae Newell Rist, of Avenue C, reconnected with the love of her life, James Smith, on May 24, 2023, from her home in St. Johnsbury, VT.

                Irma was born in Norwich, CT, on November 11, 1945, daughter to the late Newell Palmer and Dorothea Pearl (Stevens) Rist.  She was raised and educated in Lisbon, CT, and later went to Dietary College.  She worked in nursing homes much of her life as a cook and dietitian, which included the opening of Canterbury Inn as well as working at the Pines, St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab and lastly at Lyndon State College.  Irma enjoyed cooking, crocheting and gardening.  She loved making specialty cakes for events, holidays, weddings and baby showers, etc.  Many a cake or salad were made for the Elks functions.  She always catered to the elderly and was always very caring of everyone.

                She is survived by her daughter: Melissa Talatinian of St. Johnsbury, granddaughter Kristen Talatinian of NH, a son: Jesse Shusta of Greenville, TX, her sister: Barbara Calkins of Preston, CT, 3 additional grandchildren: Jessie “Thorne” Shusta of TX, Aspen Shusta TX, and  Edward “Eddie” Shusta of NY.

                She was also predeceased by a son: Edward Shusta in April 2021.
